Tips for a stress-free journey and parking at the Austrian MotoGP
To kick off your MotoGP weekend in Spielberg the right way, it’s worth checking out the best travel and parking options around the Red Bull Ring. Whether you’re flying, driving, taking the train or cycling – here’s how to get to the track smoothly and without stress.
Flying in – What’s the best airport for getting to MotoGP in Spielberg?
There are two main airports to consider when heading to MotoGP Spielberg: Vienna (VIE) and Graz (GRZ). Vienna offers more direct flights and low-cost carriers – ideal if you’re flexible with your travel plans. Graz is closer to the action: just around 75 kilometres from the Red Bull Ring and about an hour’s drive – perfect for a quick and easy journey.
How to reach the Red Bull Ring by car or motorbike
The Red Bull Ring is centrally located in Styria – if you’re driving yourself, a bit of planning goes a long way. The track is well connected, especially via the S36. Key tip: head out early to avoid peak traffic. Where exactly is the Austrian GP? Navigation tip: enter “Red Bull Ring Str. 1, 8724 Spielberg” into your sat nav and off you go. From the S36, take exit 24 “Zeltweg Ost / Spielberg”, continue along the L545, then turn left into Spielbergerstraße. After about 1.3 km, turn right into Red Bull Straße – this leads straight to the car parks.
If you’re coming from Graz, you’ve got two main routes: either via the A9 (through the Gleinalm tunnel – toll applies!) followed by the S36, or via the A2 and B78 heading towards Zeltweg.
Top tip while en route: navigation apps can sometimes be unreliable during event weekends – it’s best to use the ASFINAG app for live updates on traffic, roadworks and delays, and follow the official road signs once you're near.
What you need to know about parking at MotoGP Spielberg
There’s plenty of free parking around the Red Bull Ring – most areas are about a 15-minute walk from the track. Parking zones are colour-coded, and your MotoGP ticket will tell you exactly where to go.
Riding in on a motorbike? There’s a dedicated motorbike parking zone with a biker cloakroom where you can safely store your gear for a small fee.
Prefer to stay flexible? Bring your bike! From the official Park & Bike area at Therme Fohnsdorf, marked cycle paths lead directly to the circuit – with dedicated bike racks on site. It’s a great way to skip event traffic entirely.
Important: Check the latest traffic and parking updates before setting off – that way, you’re fully prepped even if there are last-minute changes.
Getting to the Red Bull Ring by train or bus
Planning to use public transport to get to MotoGP in Spielberg? No problem – the track is well connected and services are adjusted to suit the race weekend. The closest train station is Zeltweg, just about 5 km from the circuit. That said, Knittelfeld (around 7 km away) is usually the better option – with direct shuttle buses to the Red Bull Ring. On race days, free shuttle buses run regularly between Knittelfeld, Judenburg and the circuit – no stress, no need to park.
Travelling from Vienna
It takes about 2.5 hours by train to reach Knittelfeld – whether you're starting from Vienna Hauptbahnhof or Meidling. From there, a shuttle takes you straight to the track. Tip: Check the ÖBB app ahead of time – construction work may affect some services during the MotoGP weekend.
Travelling from Graz
The journey takes about 1.5 hours with a quick change at Bruck/Mur. And again – the shuttle will take you the rest of the way, hassle-free.
Travelling from Salzburg
From Salzburg, expect a few changes along the way – the fastest connections take about 3.5 to 4.5 hours.
Long-distance coaches are also available via Eventbus – with departure points across Austria including Vienna, Salzburg, Tyrol, Styria and more. The buses drop you off right at the circuit entrance – you can’t get any closer. Want to make it even easier? Choose one of our Global-Tickets Travel Packages – transfers between Graz and the Red Bull Ring on Saturday & Sunday are already included. Easy, direct, and exclusively for our guests.
Your advantage: No parking stress – and you can enjoy the after-race parties in the Fanzone to the fullest without having to worry about getting back!
